Patty J Jones, My personal story

Patty J Jones
I was a successful sole-proprietor for 25 years in a business I dearly loved, designing window treatments and home furnishings.
It was imperative I remained focused, due to the nature of the work. The work was basically step by step, following a system. Should you leave out a step, it would quickly become apparent when you installed the treatment on your clients window.
I followed a balanced routine each week. The jobs may have changed from week to week, but the routine was the same. My life was disciplined. I had good habits and good habits became routine and I was in charge of my routine.
As time went by, the economy and the world changed so did my circumstances. When my husbands 6 figure income was downsized I gave up the brick and mortar business to go online to build a better future. One that would give us more control and time freedom when we retired.
I had seen many success stories and knew mine would be also, however I was not prepared for the challenges the new world of Internet Marketing would bring. The tools, technologies, even the vocabulary was unfamiliar. I soon lost direction and then every thing became my direction. I became a frustrated, fearful, and an overwhelmed marketer wandering in a sea of programs, gurus and systems.
I was at critical overload. I wondered if I would ever attract a client to my marketing mess. That is exactly what I had a marketing mess. I had implemented here, there, and everywhere, but nothing had a common ground.
Finally I began to see light at the end of the tunnel when I hired a coach to help me put the pieces together. She helped me define my niche, design a strategic action plan, and held me accountable to reach my goals. I learned to apply new disciplines to my life. Most importantly I was introduce to a new career, coaching.
I wanted to help others empower their success. To assist them to learn new disciplines and build a foundation that is solid in order for them to gain confidence to move forward without fear and frustration. To become independent leaders of their businesses and lives. For those reasons I became a coach.
Discipline and focus was my key. But those alone will not create your business. There is a learning curve when you are starting over the challenges are a bit different than when you began your career years ago. The fear, frustration and down right aggravation can consume you and you are wallowing in a sea of dispair, chronic confusion and frustration.
Now, more than ever it is imperative you learn the skills necessary to bring business to you. For the first time in history retirement may require you find a way to support yourself, and if you have never been a business owner before, there are several skills you need to put in place.
